What does being B Corp certified mean for Kin + Carta Americas?
For Kin + Carta Americas, being a B Corp means as a business we have looked more closely at how we operate, and how we treat our employees, customers, communities, and the environment. This framework challenges us to think about more than just profit but instead think about the impact or change we are trying to make as a business on the people we work with and the planet. Becoming a B Corp is an important step on our path of becoming a true triple bottom line business.
What did the process look like for the company?
The process took just about 2 years. The process of becoming a B Corp is meant to challenge your business and your leaders to think differently and make significant changes throughout all areas of the business. Although it took us a while to make the necessary changes, I can confidently say that this time allowed us to really set a foundation and establish new ways of thinking which have continued to transcend across the other regions of Kin + Carta and throughout the entire company in general.
Could you share the biggest challenge you faced?
The biggest challenge we faced during the certification process was getting the right individuals involved at the right time. We quickly learned that we needed a shared vision of our goal in order to get everyone aligned. Once that shared vision was established it was much easier to work together on detailed initiatives to make the necessary changes to become certified.
What was the greatest takeaway of the process?
Becoming a B Corp isn't just one person's job. It takes a village, it takes a Connective. The B Corp framework touches every single aspect of the business and if you do not have everyone on board and willing to make changes, it will become a very long road. I am fortunate enough to work for an incredible company where being a socially responsible business has always been part of our DNA, and because of that, the work involved in the certification was a lot less challenging than it might otherwise have been.
What does the future hold for Kin + Carta Americas as a B Corp certified company?
Becoming a B Corp is just the start for Kin + Carta Americas and the rest of Kin + Carta globally, there is so much more work to be done. Specifically, for Kin + Carta Americas we are eager to find new ways to create positive social or environmental impact with our clients via existing or new projects. In addition, we are continuing to adapt to our ever changing world through our comprehensive diversity and inclusion agenda, and our evolving community partnership programme. In this crucial year, we will also be more heavily involved in tackling the climate emergency where we can, on top of the goal we already have, to be net zero carbon a business within the next two years. Needless to say, we have a lot of work ahead of us but we are proud of what we have accomplished thus far and can’t wait for the journey ahead. We are so excited to be a B Corp and be part of this journey along with so many other wonderful organizations.
