Our name is intentional. “Kin” refers to family and “Carta” refers to maps. When together, we’re Kin + Carta — a group of connected makers, builders and creators, who come together everyday to help our clients build experiences and plot a clear path forward in today’s digital world. Carta is what we do, Kin is who we are.

Kin+ is a series that uncovers the experiences, stories and lives of the people who make our collective “Kin” exceptional.

You never know where your Kin + Carta journey might lead. For Florencia Sardi, she was one of our first hires in Argentina, helping to turn what was a start-up venture into a hugely successful consultancy. In a few short years she showed true leadership and was recently named as our Managing Director for Argentina; someone who motivates our people, helping them grow on their own journeys.

Flor originally intended to become a teacher but we love to find people with skill sets and worldviews that are different from our own and the typical tech community. We hope you find her story inspiring, and who knows? If you join Kin + Carta in any position, it could lead to something you never expected.

My story begins back in high school, when I had to decide what to study and what career would guide me throughout my life. I was confused; since I was a kid, I had wanted to be a teacher, but it didn't feel like enough. I realized that I really enjoyed the programming courses I had taken a few years before. So, I thought, maybe I could combine those two. Without thinking too much about it, I decided to pursue a degree in computer engineering.

I remember opening the door to my first class and immediately being surrounded by more than 60 people; I was one of only three women. While this was a change of pace for me, it didn't come as a surprise, as historically, technology has not been a field chosen by women. But it was fine and I loved my time surrounded by such passionate and smart individuals! After three years of studying, I decided I wanted to earn my own money, so I took a part-time job as a QA. When I completed my degree, I moved to a full-time job, and shortly after, I called my former director and asked if he was looking for professors. He said yes, and I joined the university's staff as a teacher.

Full time job in the morning and teaching at the University in the night shift. This worked out well for me, as it was two jobs I had passion for and I continued to find opportunities to learn a lot.  My schedule looked like this for ten years and I loved it!

In 2014, after several years of hopping between companies for my full time job, I joined Kin + Carta. I kept moving because I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I think this was because the challenges weren't right, or I couldn't envision myself staying at the company for long. Then, Kin + Carta came along. They were a big company in Chicago, with no presence yet in Latin America. It was during this time that Kin + Carta decided to open their offices in Argentina, and it felt like an exciting start-up opportunity to me. I decided to jump in and see how it could go, thinking, 'Why not? I can be part of that.'

After joining, I spent five weeks in Chicago getting to know the people, clients, and ways of working. I even shadowed some ongoing projects. Then, I returned to Buenos Aires to be part of the small team that would grow our LatAm operations. This was all so much fun! I began as a product manager, then transitioned to the roles of scrum master and account manager on a client project after about a year. The opportunities presented to me made me want more, so I eventually stepped into a leadership role where I could expand our local and regional growth.

I've loved this new season of my career, which involves looking after our people and listening to their needs. I get the chance to support individuals and the accounts they work on whenever there are challenges or high-priority opportunities. I was part of the team that determined how we could best support our people during the COVID-19 pandemic and contributed to the opening of our operations in Colombia. I've helped support sales, implement new team models, define rules of engagement, and ultimately set our people up for success in delivering their best and most brilliant work.

Recently, I've taken on the role of Managing Director for Argentina, which is packed with new challenges and clear goals ahead that I am looking forward to. My journey so far has been a comprehensive learning journey, and I've loved the fact that I'm not just building my career; I'm also building the business.

I don't take any of this for granted. What I've always loved about Kin + Carta are the values we hold ourselves to and the sense of belonging we nurture, both in our regional and project teams. When I have something to say, I'm given the chance to speak up, and I've been invited to make changes and improvements along the way. This has made me feel like a true part of the team, with my opinions and contributions valued and respected. And that’s what I want to make sure our people know, they can always reach out to me and all our leadership group.

Working at Kin + Carta has also allowed me to develop skills that I never thought I would have, such as leadership and team management. I've been given the chance to attend training sessions and workshops, which have helped me become a better manager and a more effective communicator.

But perhaps the most rewarding part of my job is seeing the impact that our work has on our clients and their customers. Knowing that we are helping businesses succeed and improve the experiences of their customers is truly fulfilling. And it's not just about the end result; it's also about the journey we take with our clients and the relationships we build along the way.

Looking back on my career, I realize that I made the right choice in pursuing computer engineering, and I'm grateful for all the opportunities and experiences that have come my way. And I'm especially grateful to be part of a company like Kin + Carta, where I can continue to learn, grow, and make a difference.

Thanks for taking the time to read my story! If you want to know more about Kin + Carta, let's connect on LinkedIn, I'm always happy to chat.
