Bringing digital to life

  • 27 February 2020

Kin + Carta Connect has been supporting BIMA Digital Day for a number of years. It's our chance to go back to school and spend some time inspiring and challenging the next generation of digital professionals.

The Centre for Economics and Business Research says that the shortage of tech and digital talent is costing the UK £21.8bn. It’s crucial that young people see our industry as an exciting place where they can lead fulfilling careers.

Over 5,000 13-16 year olds benefit from this national initiative. Agencies such as ours sent their experts into the classrooms to provide an insight into our working world and outline the opportunities available to the kids when they leave school. This year, we teamed up with students at King’s School Macclesfield, Craigmount High School in Edinburgh and Shooter’s Hill Sixth Form College in London.

Winning mentality

Every year a national challenge is set with each group competing to meet a brief under the watchful eyes of the professionals.

This year, the students were challenged to come up with a campaign that got them inspired. And for the second year in a row, we were in charge of one of the winning teams as Joelle Dunne, our Senior Account Director led the children at Macclesfield to success.

Congratulations to the talented students – Alex, Oliver, Mackenzie, Tariq – who impressed the judges with their innovative approach and creative thinking. Their brilliant campaign idea involved the creation of their very own interactive online quiz. This helped users to work out what career would be best suited to them based on their interests and experience. The team managed to create a fully working prototype which they presented to the wider group.

As the winning team, the students will get the opportunity to attend a workshop with EPAM to see how they can develop the group's idea and ultimately bring it to life. They also won £500 for their school.

We had a brilliant day with the students and teachers at Kings – all their ideas were amazing and really well considered. The students were fully engaged and we really enjoyed the day spent working with the teams and helping them craft their ideas.

Joelle Dunne - Senior Account Director, Kin + Carta Connect

I am proud of all the students and their entries this year, but especially the winning team and their unique approach to the challenge set. The day has allowed us as a school to form a fantastic working relationship with our digital partner Kin + Carta Connect, who have been incredibly generous with their time and expertise. We really hope to build on this relationship over the coming years.

Mr P McKenzie - Head of Computer Science and Creative iMedia, Kings School Macclesfield
