Kin + Carta Europe

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Kin + Carta Europe is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2027.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: Fiscal year (FY) 2020 (August 2019 to July 2020). Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations:

Kin + Carta Europe historically records its carbon emissions on a fiscal rather than calendar year basis. All emissions are therefore shown on the basis of our fiscal year (ending July 31st each year). Baseline emissions for FY20 do not include Scope 3 emissions as we did not record those at that stage. We have recorded relevant Scope 3 category emissions in our current year emissions reporting, though note that (along with this year’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions) this will be a reduced amount due to significantly lower employee commuting and business travel levels during the pandemic. We therefore intend to use next year, FY22, as the baseline year for our Scope 3 emissions.

Baseline year emissions:

Emissions TOTAL (tCO2e)
Scope 1 77
Scope 2 245
Scope 3 (Included sources) N/A
 Total Emissions  322

Current Emissions Reporting

Reporting Year: FY21 (August 2020 to July 2021)

Emissions TOTAL (tCO2e)
Scope 1 8
Scope 2 116
Scope 3 (Included sources) 222*
 Total Emissions  346

*Including purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, and downstream transportation and distribution

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We project that Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 225 tCO2e by FY26. This is a reduction of 30% on our FY20 baseline year.

We will include a Scope 3 emissions reduction target in next year’s version of this carbon reduction plan, when we have an accurate baseline figure for those emissions.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Carbon Reduction Initiatives

We have not completed any environmental management measures or projects since the FY20 baseline. However, we have undertaken energy efficiency audits in each of our UK offices as well as started the process of switching to renewable energy suppliers, and the measures will be in effect when performing any UK government procurement contract.

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • Implementing the results of our office energy efficiency audits, including adopting LED / PIR lighting controls,
  • Reducing heating and air-conditioning use where possible, and other similar measures
  • Developing a new company Business Travel policy to reduce business travel emissions
  • Moving to a hybrid flexible working model which is likely to reduce employee commuting levels and emissions
