The role in a nutshell: 

Kin + Carta are looking for a highly motivated, entrepreneurial and dedicated Senior Agile Delivery Lead (ADL) to join our growing Public Sector delivery team. This role comprises a mix of agile coaching, project management and client management as well as helping to build public sector business and capability within K+C. Our ADL’s work with our expert in-house teams of developers, designers and testing engineers to deliver innovative, high-quality software and operational change.

As an Agile Delivery Lead your role will be to give the team the best possible opportunity to succeed in a variety of environments. You should have led the agile delivery of complex and varied software projects or programmes within the public sector as a Delivery Manager, owning, driving & optimising delivery.

You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with key senior stakeholders to provide delivery progress updates and drive forward improvement strategies in the wider delivery programme of work you are part of.

Our government client list includes Test and Trace, the Home Office, Trade Remedies Authority, DLUHC, National Crime Agency, GDS and the Planning Inspectorate, and is growing rapidly.

What you can expect:

As a Senior Agile Delivery Lead at Kin + Carta you will be responsible first and foremost for independently taking ownership of your project delivery plan and consistently visualising and radiating information for the team and client to ensure transparency. You’ll own the team’s processes, ensuring agile approaches are pragmatically adopted and maintained whilst coaching and mentoring team members and clients to enhance agility. Driving quality and continuous improvement will be central to everything you do and you’ll be skilled at using various tools and techniques to identify where improvements can be made. You will be adept in utilising data and metrics to track and forecast delivery, use it to manage expectations and highlight areas of inefficiency. You’ll be joining a psychological safe culture and will be committed and passionate about building on that and getting the best from your team.

Agile Practices and Processes

  • Setting up and maintaining an efficient, lean workflow suitable for a software development cross functional team in a scaled Public Sector environment.
  • Own the team’s processes, ensuring agile approaches are pragmatically adopted and maintained
  • Defining and running a regular cadence of ceremonies to provide visibility, gather feedback, drive progression and continuously improve e.g. stand-ups, regular refinements, retros etc.
  • Coach your team and/or client to help them understand the value of agile ways of working
  • Build a positive, psychologically safe culture to ensure you get the most from the team, identifying problems and facilitating their remedies, and motivating the team to perform well, learn and grow Project Requirements, Planning and Management
  • Supporting in the creation of Statements of Work and casting plans inline with the agreed delivery approach and ensuring the early mitigation of risk in all client engagements
  • Gathering and articulating to team members and stakeholders what the vision, strategy and objectives are for your project
  • Facilitating the capturing of requirements including writing of requirements and user stories in collaboration with other team members
  • Facilitating the prioritisation and estimation of a product backlog or set of requirements
  • Preparing and managing release plans, project plans or roadmaps based on project requirements
  • Use experience of multiple parts of the discovery, alpha, beta, live, product life cycle, and learnings from working with CDDO and GDS to recognise appropriate deliverables and when it is right to move forward
  • Work with Growth, Delivery and Casting to ensure the right skills for your teams are available at the right time
  • Managing casting changes and issues such as holidays and other absences as they arise

Budget Tracking and Management

  • Tracking budgets and ensuring accurate revenue forecasting, working with client service teams on any mitigation of commercial risk
  • Sharing budget status with clients on a regular basis and have productive conversations regarding project commercials
  • Approval of Timesheets Status Reporting and Governance
  • Tracking delivery data for your project to improve flow/throughput, share progress updates, forecast and identify team challenges
  • Visualise and radiate information for the team and client to ensure transparency, even in less than perfect or complex circumstances
  • Identify with the team any Risks and Issues and their potential impact and work with the team and other stakeholders to mitigate
  • Collaborating with Delivery Assurance and other internal stakeholders on issue resolution where necessary
  • Communicate RAG status to internal and external stakeholders
  • Set up regular status reporting in order to articulate progress, risk and issues and manage stakeholder expectations
  • Work with your peers to bridge gaps in expectations through communication, alignment and appropriate problem solving

Consultancy

  • Proactively identify opportunities to add additional value for the client
  • Identify opportunities to grow K+C’s influence and reach across your client to grow revenue

Building the team

  • Teach, coach and mentor more junior members of the Delivery practice to help in up-skilling and maintaining delivery quality standards
  • Proactively work to further the progression and development of the Delivery Practice by actively taking on tasks and responsibilities that aid our community's maturity. You identify an area for improvement, iteration or efficiency and lead on directing the change and making the change have a positive impact on our community and the way we work.

The type of person we'd love to meet:

  • You have a proven ability to impact projects at the relationship level and are trusted to lead high stakes initiatives
  • You have experience leading and supporting high-performing projects in the Public Sector, with experience within two separate programs of work, ideally in more than one government organisation.
  • Your communication and leadership is effective at the Senior Stakeholder Level
  • You should have led the agile delivery of at least 2 complex and varied software projects or programmes within the public sector as a Delivery Manager, owning, driving & optimising delivery
  • Experience of leading teams through multiple stages of the service standard process, including preparing for and participating in GDS/CDDO assessments
  • An agile mindset with demonstrable experience of multiple agile methods, tools and practices (Scrum, Kanban, Lean etc.) and be able to pragmatically apply and coach them as required
  • Experience of Working with key external stakeholders, including CDDO, GDS and DCMS, to understand their requirements and bring these effectively into the work of the team
