The Lead .NET Engineer role in a nutshell:

As a Lead .NET engineer you will be responsible for designing and implementing high quality, robust, and scalable web solutions for a broad range of clients.

What you can expect:

You will lead a team of engineers, creating work packages for the team and guiding the team through their implementation. This is a hands-on role and you will also be contributing directly to the codebase alongside managing the work of a team.

You will be working directly with our clients to capture requirements, define the most appropriate technical solutions, estimate the time and resources required to implement the solutions along with identifying related risks and dependencies.

You will primarily be working on web applications built on enterprise CMS platforms, using either ASP.NET MVC and ASP.NET Core. It is likely that you will be working on both new and existing solutions.

The type of person we would love to meet:

  • You have 3+ years in a senior or lead role working on complex ASP.NET MVC or Core web solutions and 7+ years industry .NET experience.
  • You have proven experience of designing .NET web solutions, preferably using enterprise CMS platforms such as Optimizely (formally EPiServer), and SiteCore.
  • You have experience of designing & implementing cloud hosted web solutions, especially Azure & AWS.
  • You have a thorough understanding of modern software architectures & design patterns.
  • You understand the components which typically make up an enterprise digital estate (e.g. CMS, CRM, eCommerce components) and have experience of integrating them.
  • You have experience of implementing continuous integration pipelines using platforms such as Azure Devops.
  • You are confident integrating front end build tools such as gulp, grunt and webpack into build pipelines.
  • You are experienced working with relational databases such as MS SQL and ORM frameworks
  • You have experience of working with Git-based version control systems.
  • You have knowledge and experience of unit test frameworks and methodologies.
  • You understand the Front End web stack and can assist if necessary.
  • You understand engineering best practices and build with a security-first mindset.
  • You’re familiar with best practices for creating resilient, scalable & high performance web applications.
  • You engage in and lead discussions within the team, other parts of the business and with clients, respectfully and articulately.
  • You have excellent communication skills, at both a technical and non-technical level.
  • You have great interpersonal skills, with proven experience of building excellent working relationships with clients.
  • You have experience of working to tight deadlines within a consultancy environment.
  • You have the ability to manage your own time successfully and prioritise effectively.

Nice to have:

  • You are a certified Optimizely CMS developer or hold certifications in similar platforms.
  • You have experience of designing ecommerce solutions and payment integrations, Optimizely commerce experience advantageous.
  • You have worked on websites which have multiple language & localisation requirements.
  • You have experience with other programming languages (Java/Go/Python/Perl etc).
  • You have worked with the Atlassian stack (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
  • You have experience with headless content management systems and how to interact with them.
  • You have experience using performance profilers and interpreting their results. 
  • You have experience in assessing and optimising database performance.
  • You have had exposure to the leading JavaScript libraries/frameworks such as React/Vue.
  • You’ve been working on responsive web deliveries that function across devices and browsers with an eye for implementing designs and understanding the constraints of devices and the browser.
  • You have a strong understanding of native JavaScript, and know how to structure it in a reusable and modular way.
  • You have a good understanding of semantic markup and the DOM.
  • You have a good understanding of CSS and have experience of CSS extension languages / preprocessors.
